Water Dome Drinking Fountain, for Cats and Dogs

I first tried this fountain this week and had not realised how lovely and stylish it is. Those of you who have owned a similar fountain before, which had a large white base, please note that this one is different. It has only a base large enough to hold the 'dome' and as such it is a beautiful piece, because the water really shines through the dome and gives off a blue haze, reminding me of exotic locations!

It is superbly made, and in terms of functionality we believe it is the 'recommended' fountain for cool and hygienic long term use.

Fountains for pets are not a plaything (although some cats do love to get their paws wet).

The idea is that it encourages pets to drink; this is especially important for pedigree cats who are prone to bladder issues and blockages. Male Persians are very susceptible to this and therefore the Rescue recommends every house with a male Persian should have a water fountain - free flowing, cooled and cleaned water is far more attractive than a bowl. This model has a filter and also cools the water. The fountain holds a lot more than you would think - around 3 litres!

Once installed the water takes a little time to settle into its proper pattern; it will ultimately flow down the whole surface of the dome and then recycle via the filtration system. It can take up to 24 hours at first, for the water to cover the dome completely; the fuller the better, to help it achieve this. Once it's settled into its working pattern, it gives a gentle water rushing sound, which is very relaxing and only just audible. So the sound is not a disturbance.

Filters need replacing every 4-6 weeks, and we can obtain replacements on request. The filter should be washed under a running tap at least once a week (these are easy to access, no mess).

Infra-Red Automatic Feeder

Over the last few months you will have noticed that we've offered and tried out a number of automated pet feeders in the Web Shop. Some of you may also know that I (the Rescue's owner/manager) have been involved with product design for quite a long time, and I remain a product design advisor to large firms. As such I am always delighted to see style and function integrated successfully, and I can rave for hours about nice products! This is one such product; I was thrilled to receive one from a distributor and immediately liked it above all others. Sadly, it's now out of manufacture!! (Why does this always happen when we find products we love!).

The feeder is great for cats or small dogs, and is easy to clean via the removable stainless steel bowl insert. The case wipes down for easy disinfecting. The unit is infra red, so a sensor detects movement around the feeder and it opens on your pet's approachno. Please note this is not on a timer, and I am pleased about this as many units are simply pre-timed. That isn't very practical for Persians who need a more constant access to food as they are 'snackers'. Once your pet moves away, it shuts again. It's powered by 4 'AA' batteries.

Having an automated bowl is greatly advantageous. For either your wet or dry feeds, it keeps the food far fresher and dust and insect free. But for wet feeds it is also invaluable as it controls the notorious 'pet food smell' which most owners cannot abide!

This model is very cute and very well made. In addition it comes in two sizes but we have only one unit remaining. The majority of units we bought in, sold very quickly to our visiting adopters! So, be quick!
