After growing up with a house full of dogs, cats and birds, I was adament I would never have a pet of my own. Why did I need the responsibility, all that hair and then the sorrow of them passing away.

But after years of enjoying my own company I thought fostering was a good way to see how I felt. And now only a few weeks later I have three cats, just enough to qualify as a crazy cat lady my friends tell me.

With quite extensive arthritis cats are the right balance; they don't need walking, are happy to sit on the sofa all day if you can't move and can cheer me up when the pain gets a bit grim.

So far they have me well trained!
